Arewa Women Initiative For Climate Change Advocacy And Environmental Sustainability (AWIFCA) is a women-led organization that was established in 2020 and registered as a non-partisan,non-religious, non-discriminatory, and non-profit organization with its headquarters in Kano, Nigeria. Awifca was incorporated into Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)with the registration number 164919.
The National Policy On Climate Change for Nigeria(NCCP) 2021-2030 elaborated that the northwest and northeast geopolitical zones constitute the arid and semi-arid regions of Northern Nigeria and where most of the country’s livestock are reared are the most vulnerable to climate change in Nigeria. Recent detailed climate vulnerability mapping indicated that Northern Nigeria has a high vulnerability to climate change.
To tackle climate change issues through both proactive and sustainable measures, with a new amazing campaign and decision in accordance to the sustainable development goals.
To effectively adapt to, and mitigate climate change to build climate-resilient communities.
To accelerate and come up with a financially sustainable industry, to achieve access to universal clean energy for cooking by 2030. This will lead to improved health, reduced climate and environmental impacts, women empowerment, and improved livelihood.
According to research that was conducted by Bastin et al, science, 2019, the easiest and cheapest way to mitigate climate change is by planting trees. This was the reason why tree planting was the top objective of our organization.
