About us

Arewa Women Initiative For Climate Change Advocacy and Environmental Sustainability (AWIFCA)

 is a women-led, non-governmental organisation based in Northern Nigeria, dedicated to tackling climate change through education, advocacy, empowerment, and local action.

1. Tree Planting: To plant trees and restore biodiversity to help fight climate change in a more economic and eco-friendly way
2. Empowerment: To decrease vulnerability and improve adaptation capacity among poor local communities affected by climate change.
3. Women Empowerment: To promote women's empowerment in tackling climate change issues.
4. Awareness: To raise awareness by informing and educating people, community, organization, and government on mitigation and adaptation of climate change.

We believe that empowering women and communities is central to building a climate-resilient future. Together, we’re nurturing a greener, healthier, and more sustainable Northern Nigeria.

Since our establishment in 2020, we have planted thousands of trees, empowered students and teachers across Kano State with environmental education, and advocated for access to clean energy and water in underserved communities. From our tree-planting campaigns in Karfi and Yusuf Maitama Sule University, to our research and outreach efforts with NESREA and global partners like SUKHI222, AWIFCA continues to drive change at the grassroots.

Tree Planting

Recent research shows that one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to mitigate climate change is by planting trees.
This is why tree planting remains a top priority for our organisation.
We have planted a total of 12,000 seedlings across four different secondary schools within the Kano metropolis, including:
