About Awifca
Arewa Women Initiative For Climate Change Advocacy and Environmental Sustainability (AWIFCA)
is a women-led organization founded in 2020 and officially registered with Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) under registration number 164919. We are a non-partisan, non-religious, non-discriminatory, and non-profit organization headquartered in Kano, Nigeria.
Since our establishment, we have planted thousands of trees, empowered students and teachers across Kano State through environmental education, and championed access to clean energy and water in underserved communities.
Our capacity-building programmes are implemented in partnership with leading research institutes and government agencies, including the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), and the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT). We also work closely with key government bodies such as the Kano State Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Women Affairs, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs. Through these collaborations, we deliver practical, community-driven solutions that strengthen resilience and promote sustainable development.
In addition, we collaborate with global partners such as SUKHI222 and the Global Fund for Women to expand our reach and deepen our impact.
We believe that empowering women and communities is central to building climate resilience. Together, we are nurturing a greener, healthier, and more sustainable Northern Nigeria.
