List of Awifca Events
1. International Day of Forests
On March 21, 2022, AWIFCA organised a tree-planting campaign at GGSS Rimin Gata to commemorate the International Day of Forests. AWIFCA also held an awareness campaign to educate individuals on improving forest management, stopping deforestation, investing in reforestation, and utilising the unique ability of forests to help tackle the climate crisis.
2. Afforestation at Karfi Village
Afforestation at a Mosque and a Primary Health Care Facility in Karfi Village, Kura Local Government Area, Kano State
As part of our movement to accelerate the implementation of local action on climate change, our organisation carried out an afforestation drive at a mosque and a primary health care facility in Karfi Village, Kura Local Government Area, Kano State. We planted 2,000 seedlings on 25th October 2021. This initiative is part of AWIFCA’s commitment to reducing emissions and increasing carbon sinks.
3. Awareness Campaign
At AWIFCA, we believe in advocacy. We continually seize opportunities to engage with people from various communities to raise awareness about climate change. Through awareness-raising, capacity building, and innovation, climate change education empowers communities and individuals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt effectively to a changing climate.
4. Tree Planting at Selected Primary Schools
On 21st October 2021, AWIFCA planted 1,000 seedlings at selected primary schools. This initiative forms part of our efforts to strengthen children’s resilience to climate change, as children can become champions in addressing the climate crisis.
5. Tree Planting at Selected Senior Secondary Schools
Our first annual tree-planting event was held on 20th October 2021. We planted 8,000 seedlings at selected senior secondary schools within the Kano metropolis. This project increased students’ awareness and understanding of how tree planting contributes to carbon storage and capture.
6. Donation to Dutse Polytechnic, Jigawa State
AWIFCA donated 1,000 seedlings to Dutse Polytechnic in Jigawa State on 18th October 2021. This action reflects our commitment to local climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts.
7. Climate Change Awareness March
AWIFCA organised a climate change awareness march in Kano State on 24th September 2021. We believe everyone in society has a role to play in raising awareness about climate action and in calling for greater ambition from government and other stakeholders.
