World Environment Day
In commemoration of World Environment Day, AWIFCA, in partnership with BUA Foods PLC, planted 500 trees at Yusuf Maitama Sule University, contributing to a greener and more sustainable environment. As part of the celebration, AWIFCA also conducted a sensitization visit to National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), where we presented our maiden research titled “Climate Change and Poverty: An Empirical Survey of Plastic Debris Usage as Fuel for Cooking in Traditional Stoves in Kano, Nigeria.”
The study highlighted how limited access to clean cooking technologies is driving vulnerable communities to resort to burning plastic waste, posing serious health and environmental risks. These activities underscore the urgent need for systemic solutions that tackle plastic pollution at its root while accelerating the transition to clean energy alternatives. AWIFCA remains committed to working with government and stakeholders to promote a sustainable future where both nature and climate can thrive
